GreenFiber is featured in the attic of the Energy Wise Healthy Home Show

GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation will be the star of Episode 13 in the new PBS documentary series, the Energy Wise Healthy Home Show. The series will showcase energy-efficient, health and safety conscious technologies in home building that not only lower utility costs, but improve personal health and safety and reduce damage to our environment as well.

The 26 half-hour episodes begin airing in June 2004 and will follow the step-by-step planning and construction of an 8,500 square-foot home in Weddington, North Carolina by builder Kris Axhoj. As the executive producer explained in a recent interview, "The idea behind the show is to educate builders and the general public…so that in the coming years up to 50 percent of new houses will be both energy efficient and healthy homes." GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation’s health and safety factors, durability, comfort, and energy efficiency fit this view exactly.

GreenFiber will be used to insulate the attic of the home. The product forms a monolithic, seamless blanket of protection, and GreenFiber’s ability to stop heat transfer remains consistent throughout the seasons by keeping heat in through the winter and out during the summer. This reduction in air filtration also cuts down on sound transmission, particularly airborne noise generated by traffic, airplanes, radios, television, and conversations. GreenFiber insulated homes are quieter.

The Energy Wise Healthy Home documentary advocates technology for improving the health and safety of the home, and GreenFiber’s fire resistant capabilities illustrate this requirement nicely. GreenFiber is treated with fire retardants and is guaranteed to retain its fire retardant characteristics throughout the life of the structure. This translates to a 57% increase in fire resistance over other insulation materials.

The focus of the Energy Wise Healthy Home Show also demonstrates a growing public concern for reducing damage to our environment and dependence on fossil fuels. GreenFiber responds to these concerns by reducing landfill waste – each bag contains the equivalent of 46 Sunday newspapers – and consuming little energy to produce. The cellulose product requires less energy to produce than mineral fibers such as fiberglass and consists of 85% recycled content. GreenFiber helps to preserve our planet.

Established in 2000, GreenFiber LLC is a quality-conscious provider of GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation, fire and sound products. GreenFiber is sold through major home centers, building supply retailers and lumberyards in the US and Canada to the do-it-yourself and contractor customer. GreenFiber’s products are also sold through a national sales force to residential and commercial contractors as well as to the manufactured housing industry. The company, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, is a 50/50 joint venture of Louisiana-Pacific (NYSE:LPX) and Casella Waste Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CWST). GreenFiber has the capacity to turn what has previously been an environmentally-friendly "specialty" product into a major competitor in the building products industry.
