COMMITMENT TO FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL (FSC)
PROGRAM ANNOUNCED BY LEADING BUILDING PRODUCTS MANUFACTURER
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — August 28, 2007 — US GreenFiber LLC, the nation’s leading manufacturer of natural fiber insulation, fire and sound products, has announced one of its initial steps to make environmental sustainability a company-wide initiative. GreenFiber is one of the first building products manufacturers in the U.S. to commit to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) program. US GreenFiber recently unveiled their initial marketing materials of what will be an ongoing commitment to printing the company’s internal communications, direct mail, brochures, point-of-purchase and other literature in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council’s stringent requirements.
US GreenFiber has partnered with the first commercial printer in the Charlotte, North Carolina region to receive its chain-of-custody (COC) certification from the FSC. The FSC endorsement recognizes businesses that utilize paper and printing services where the final product has moved correctly through its chain-of-custody certification process. This process ensures that the paper fiber originated from proper forestation and was produced using environmentally responsible methods. To display the FSC logo on printed materials, accredited commercial printing companies must document that these materials originated from an FSC-certified forest and paper manufacturer.
“This represents the first of many steps our company will take to further demonstrate our commitment to sustainability,” said Dennis Barrineau, president of US GreenFiber. “We are committed to being a leader not only in the building products industry, but also in protecting our environment.”
Working closely with a nationally-known sustainability consulting firm, US GreenFiber will soon be rolling out other comprehensive initiatives to support its ongoing commitment to improving the environment. These will include energy-saving programs and processes in all areas of the company, from manufacturing to distribution to the company’s day-to-day business practices.
Environmental organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club and Greenpeace all support and encourage FSC certification. A non-profit organization, the Forest Stewardship Council encourages businesses and consumers to actively look for the FSC logo when making their purchasing decisions.
