GreenFiber celebrates a new level of recycling with Appreciation Day

GreenFiber is celebrating a community committed to environmental stewardship. GreenFiber was awarded recycling grants from both the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources that will take GreenFiber’s "Read it today and Insulate your home tomorrow" program one step further. GreenFiber will host the Nebraska DEQ, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the public in an Appreciation Day on September 30th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at their manufacturing facility on 3607 E. Highway 24 in Norfolk. The celebration will include plant tours and refreshments, and the public is invited to bring their fiber recyclables and watch them being processed.

The "Read it today…" recycling program is a free service for the public to drop off newspaper, food boxes and phone books. The community made the program a huge success; however, GreenFiber received many calls over the years inquiring about recycling additional materials impossible to reclaim with the previous equipment. The Nebraska and Iowa grants have afforded GreenFiber the opportunity to purchase and install a new rotary grinder that will allow materials such as books, paper cores, and molded fiber to be processed into GreenFiber’s high quality GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation. The grinder was installed in June, and the new project is expected to divert approximately 10,000 tons of non-newsprint material from local landfills annually.

Nebraska’s Litter Reduction and Recycling Grant Program was created to protect the public health and the environmental quality of the state. Iowa’s Solid Waste Alternative Program (SWAP) works to reduce the amount of solid waste generated and landfilled. GreenFiber’s environmentally-friendly features fit right in with both states’ efforts toward energy conservation and stewardship.

GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation consists of an earth-friendly 85 percent recycled material and requires less energy to produce than mineral fibers such as fiberglass. GreenFiber also reduces sound and has a Class-1 fire rating. The product can be used in the attic and exterior walls to promote thermal comfort and in the internal walls to cut down on the transmission of sound.

GreenFiber will introduce the new rotary grinder equipment at the September 30th open house and thank the many supporters who have made the present recycling program such a huge success. GreenFiber is proud to be part of a community committed to recycling and looks forward to celebrating with them this next step in recycling.
